Recently an individual came
to my job counseling office at the North Dallas Shared Ministries. The individual avoided eye contact, was
looking down, and had little to say.
When asked if he wanted a job, he said in a low voice while looking down
that he did.
I asked the individual if
he were the hiring manager, would he be hired.
I did not get a positive answer.
A young man who is a university
intern told me the story of one of his peer group who had received a job offer then
had it rescinded when he was seen sleeping during a company meeting.
Often a job candidate’s
conduct during an interview or while visiting a potential employer determines
if a job is offered or not. I have
published a number of blogs describing proper conduct during the interview
process. If a person really wants job,
then it is critical that he/she exhibit the qualities that the employer is
seeking for the open position.
My message here is simple,
if you want to be hired, you must present yourself as the ideal candidate. You should enter the hiring situation with a
positive attitude that is focused on understanding the job requirements and
reflect interest in the hiring organization and the open position. You can always reject a job offer, but the
objective is to get the offer!
Please
comment in this bIog or email at mailto:glynjordan@gmail.com your
experience in getting hired.
Thanks!
Glyn
