An article in The Wall
Street Journal, by Neil Shah and David Wessel on page A1, in the July 5,
2012, edition, “Why Hairdressers Are Secure: Their Jobs Can’t Be Exported” got my attention. Personal-services jobs that involve assisting
or caring for other people have been persistently strong.
Growth jobs in personal-service occupations include nonfarm
animal caretakers, life guards, ski patrol, other recreational protective
service workers, home- health aides, child-care workers, manicurists and pedicurists,
nursing aids and orderlies, fitness trainers and aerobics instructors, and hairdressers,
hairstylists and cosmetologists.
These jobs required employees to be on-site, and therefore,
cannot be outsourced! The article
includes stories of actual individuals who have found financially rewarding
work as an individual performer or as an entrepreneur.
I think that this is an encouraging article for job
seekers. However, you must be active in
seeking such opportunities which may or may not be in your comfort zone.
Please share with readers of this blog or email me at

Thanks. Glyn
