An article in Bloomberg
Business Week, by Prashant Gopal, on page 41, in the July 2 – July 8, 2012,
edition, “Arizona’s New Housing Crisis: No Workers” discusses the shortage of
construction workers in Arizona. As the economy turns around, builders are
trying to restart their businesses after a long slump. “Laws aimed at curbing illegal immigration
added to the shortage by pushing seasoned hands out of the state.”
As I have stated in other blogs, there are many employment opportunities
for craftsmen and tradesmen. For trained
individuals, these jobs offer good wages and benefits. Community colleges and vocational schools administrators
should encourage enrollment by individuals who may or may not be college bound.
I also think that truck driving is a profession
with good income and advancement potential.
What do you think?
Perhaps if more US citizens would enter these arenas the unemployment
rate would go down. Please share with
readers of this blog or email me at glynjordan@gmail.com your opinion concerning
careers in construction, transportation, and service industries.
Thanks. Glyn
