A Final Thought about South Africa

As mentioned in my previous blog, the employment rate is about 45 percent in Cape Town.  Every guide conducting our tours said that they were very appreciative for tourist visiting their country and spending time and money in South Africa. We were told that a visit by each tourist provided funds for someone to become employed.

When we visited Robben Island Prison where Nelson Mandela was confined for many years, our guide mentioned that Mandela, on his release, said that now is the time for reconciliation among all peoples.  Instead of holding a grudge or being vindictive, he and others stated that the days of Apartheid are over and now is the time to move forward.

I was very impressed with the sincerity of the citizens that I encountered during our visit.  Healing may take many generations, and I extend best wishes for growth in employment and the economy of South Africa.

Please comment in this blog or email me at glynjordan@gmail.com with thoughts about reconciliation of all cultures and races.
Thanks!
Glyn
