Busy Working Moms – A Balancing Act

An article on page 1J of the May 30, 2010, edition of The Dallas Morning News, by Amy Winter writing for Creators Syndicate, discusses the many roles played by working moms. Amy states that as companies eliminate positions in order to save money, many working moms are taking on more responsibilities. “Longer work days and increased workloads take away time with kids.”  The article quotes Mary Delaney of CareerBuilder’s “What we’re seeing from these moms is a great deal of resourcefulness and resilience as they provide for their families ….”

Here are some suggestions for working moms by Delaney:
1.      Interact with other working moms – A support network is a great asset.
2.      Investigate flexible working options – Such schedules should not impact careers.
3.      Make a schedule – A plan can budget your time efficiently.
4.      Use family time – Time with children should take priority over emails.
5.      Plan to have ‘me time’ – Some personal time is important to moms.

If you are a working mom, please share how you manage work and family time with other readers of this blog.

Thanks!    Glyn
