An article in the May 25,
2014, edition of The Dallas Morning News “Jobs Outlook Better for Grads”, on page 3D by
Pamela M. Prah of Stateline.org highlights job openings for college graduates.
Not surprising is that many
of the numerous jobs listed are for “STEM” jobs – science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics. “In raw
numbers for entry-level STEM jobs, California was first in 2013 with nearly
166,000 followed by Texas 105,000, New
York 71,000, Florida 65,000, and Illinois 57,000. Further, STEM jobs had the highest average
salary for entry-level of $66,000 as compared with non-STEM jobs of $52,000.
It is encouraging for all
graduates to see an increase on job openings.
Further, for non-college graduates, there appears to be an increasing
demand for individuals with technical skills including construction, plumbing,
electronics, automotive, and medical.
