A front page article in the September 23, 2012, edition of The Dallas Morning News - “Shifting Role
Lifts Souls” by Eric Aasen describes how a program administered by Lake
Highlands United Methodist Church (LHUMC) assisted the unemployed find jobs.
LHUMC set up an online job board, established emergency
food, networked with Sunday School groups, and offered baby-sitting services to
church members seeking employment. In
addition, the church provided assistance to non-church members.
There numerous examples of churches of all faiths providing
employment assistance. Below is just
one example of such programs:
Cascade United Methodist Church welcomed U.S. Labor
Secretary Hilda L. Solis on Oct. 5 at a well-attended job symposium aimed at
getting Americans, especially Atlanta-area residents, back to work.
One comment in the DMN article that got my attention was the
statement that individuals in need frequently do not ask for assistance. There are many organizations that are eager
and equipped to provide job counseling assistance.
An associate of mine at North Dallas Shared Ministries said
that she and her husband offer job assistance at her church weekly, but very
few individuals take advantage of this free service.
I encourage all job seekers to ask for assistance from religious
organizations that provide free services. Many individuals in similar circumstances have
found the help provided by such groups to be an important step in finding
employment.
Please share with readers of this blog or email me at
glynjordan@gmail.com if you have received assistance from a religious organization.
Thanks. Glyn
Because of rising unemployed people around the globe. More churches are willing to help their countryman.
