Seasonal Job Openings!

Cheryl Casone appearing on “Fox and Friends” discusses job opportunities on November 27, 2012.  Her website is:
http://www.foxbusiness.com/archive/author/cheryl-casone/index.html.  The site provides links to a number of job openings.

Here are the sites she mentioned today:

Kay’s Jewelers

Jared Jewelry

Amazon.Com

I encourage anyone seeking a job to immediately go to the nearest shopping center and look for help wanted signs.  I recognize that these are seasonal jobs; however, there is pay for such jobs and perhaps opportunities for permanent positions.

Please share with readers of this blog or email me at glynjordan@gmail.com how you landed your job.

Thanks.   Glyn

New US Citizens’ Cultures and Products

Recently I have had discussions with US citizens who are not natural born Americans.  They are saying that it is very difficult for them and their friends and relatives to find food and clothing in the US that are staple products in their original homeland.

For example a group of citizens from Nepal are accustomed to having goat meat in their diet. However, it has proven very difficult for them to find goat meat that is good quality and reasonable in price.  These folks are considering opening their own business which will supply goat meat products to members of their community.

Another Score client has a small business that manufactures and distributes African dresses for women.  Her business is expanding via marketing on the Internet.

From another direction, another US citizen from Oman said it was difficult for citizens of Oman to find high quality beans.  The beans that are available are imported from Europe and are of poor quality and very expensive.  She is considering opening a business to export the types of beans that her friends and family back home desire.

So what is my point?  I think that there are opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship for citizens with language skills and contacts in their homeland.  As the US continues to be the destination for many cultures, niche markets develop with demands for products not readily available in the US. I suggest individuals interested in pursuing such opportunities contact a counselor at SCORE (Counselors to Small Business – http://www.score.org) and/or conduct an Internet search using relevant key words.

If you have suggestions for individuals interested in marketing or producing cultural products, please post your comments here are email me at glynjordan@gmail.com.

Thanks, Glyn.

Are there Jobs in San Francisco?

Good friends of mine who have a son recently laid-off from a job in San Francisco asked me if there are any jobs in the area.  Below are some of the job postings websites that I have found:

Sanfranjobs.com

The Ladders.com

careerbuilder.com

jobs.net

University of California- San Francisco – Interim Staffing

Jobs San Francisco Chronicle

I am sure that many of these jobs are for individuals with 2 – 5 years of experience, but for experienced individuals, job finding is more difficult.   Please post your comments here are email me at glynjordan@gmail.com about finding jobs in San Francisco.

Thanks, Glyn.

Executives in Action Provides Consultants for Charitable Organizations

An article in The Dallas Morning News November 15, 2012, edition on page 1D “Jobless Executives Put Skills to Work for Nonprofits” discusses how an organization, Executives in Action, facilitates consulting projects for nonprofit organizations.

Executives in Action, founded by Ashlee and Chris Kleinert of Dallas in January 2009 matches senior executives in career limbo with nonprofits that need high-level projects done but do not have the expertise or finances to pull them off.

Some examples of their projects include technology integration for North Texas Food Bank, an inventory system for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul thrift store, and a strategic plan for the Dallas Children’s Theater.

Many of Executive in Action executives subsequently return to top management positions, and others embrace the world of nonprofits with a career change.

I am most impressed with this imitative shown by the Kleinerts and encourage readers of this blog to visit executivesinaction.org
and read more about this organization.

Please post your comments here are email me at glynjordan@gmail.com.

Thanks, Glyn.

Do you have a birthday a memory to share?

Personal Digital Assistance Links

As I have posted in previous blogs, part-time jobs are available for individuals wanting to work at home on their computer to earn some extra cash.

An article in The Dallas Morning News, November 11, 2012, edition “Make Money Running, Errands, Doing Tasks” by Christine Durst and Michael Harren of Creators Syndicate lists some websites for interested job seekers:

Fieldagent.net – If you have an iPhone, Field Agent pays people to perform a variety of tasks, both online or in their local area.

TaskRabbit.com – Task Rabbit lets people bid to do projects, and the task is awarded to the lowest bidder. Such projects include running to local grocery store, doing house-cleaning chores, performing research online, and doing handyman duties.

SunlarkResearch.com – Sunlark Research hires people to visit local courthouses and research public records. Such projects may require a team of individuals and up to 30 – 40 hours per week.  Pay ranges from $7 to $20 per hour.

BackgroundProfiles.com – Background Profiles provides employment-screening services, which include background checks. The company hires people in the U.S. and Canada.

I have not used these sites, so please exercise discretion with the job opportunities listed.
