Resume Tips for TEMPS

An article in The Dallas Morning News in its April 24, 2011, issue, “Resume Tips for TEMPS” by Cliff Garinn on page 1J suggests that you should avoid indicating on your resume that you are an employee of the company using the temporary agency rather than the temp agency.  The potential employer will quickly determine that you were not an employee of the referenced company.

Garinn suggests that you group similar experiences under one heading even if these experiences have been with several organizations.  You need to emphasized your performances rather than listing job skills.

Home Again!

We are pleased to be back in the USA!  Our travels were very exciting and informative.  However, nothing beats being home with friends and family. 

Based on my observations and discussions, it appear to me that  the employment situation is no better in Spain and Italy.  One comment from a guide I remember is that when the government attempts to take care of everyone even if they do not want to work, then all citizens lose.

If you are able, I suggest that you take opportunities to visits other countries.  Please share your  traveling experiences with readers of this blog.

Journey's End

We complete our cruise tomorrow in Barcelona.  Our guide in Malaga, Spain, told us that unemployment was very high there - 20 percent, but she said that there were many government benefits -- too many she thought.

We will spend time in Lugano, Como, and Milan before returning on Thursday.

Traveling

Traveling, especially cruising, provides great experiences. Yesterday we visited a pineapple plantation in the Azores. The owner of the plantation, which is actually a group of greenhouses, was a native of the island. Her grandfather, whose statue is positioned at the entrance to the farm, developed and operated the plantation until his death. The present owner has a boutique shop which my wife could not resist. Her English was perfect because she had an English nanny as she grew up in the Azores where the language is Portuguese.


Travel reminds us of just how large and diverse is our world.

Sunday in New York

On Saturday, April 2, 2011, we sailed on board Marina throughout New York Harbor passing under the Verizona Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and docking at Pier 90 on Manhattan Island. In speaking with individuals from other countries about how many of us older folks volunteer to assist others who are less fortunate, I discovered that citizens in other countries do not understand the concept of volunteerism. They asked me why do we spend so much time helping people who need assistance and advice? I said because we are Americans!
