Jobs for New College Graduates

An article in the May 25, 2014, edition of The Dallas Morning News  “Jobs Outlook Better for Grads”, on page 3D by Pamela M. Prah of Stateline.org highlights job openings for college graduates.

Not surprising is that many of the numerous jobs listed are for “STEM” jobs – science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.  “In raw numbers for entry-level STEM jobs, California was first in 2013 with nearly 166,000 followed by  Texas 105,000, New York 71,000, Florida 65,000, and Illinois 57,000.  Further, STEM jobs had the highest average salary for entry-level of $66,000 as compared with non-STEM jobs of $52,000.

It is encouraging for all graduates to see an increase on job openings.  Further, for non-college graduates, there appears to be an increasing demand for individuals with technical skills including construction, plumbing, electronics, automotive, and medical.

Are You Searching for a job or The Job?

You may be asking “what is the difference between a job and The Job?”  I am thinking that a job is any type of employment that earns an income while The Job is a position that you really want to have - a job that meets your career goals.

So does that mean you turn down a job that will get you started and pay some bills?  I suppose the answer is it depends if you need income in the immediate future or if you are in a position to continue to search until The Job comes along.

The good news about getting to work is that you can pay your bills, and who knows you may find out that this interim job is really something you enjoy and provides possibilities that may lead to The Job.  Regardless, I recommend that you give your very best effort on the job because good job performance typically leads to positive results – perhaps to
The Job!

Home and Recovering!

After a left knee replacement surgery and two weeks at the Forum on Park Lane in rehabilitation, I am home continuing my rehab!

I am very appreciative of the many medical personnel who assisted in my operation and recovery.  Doctors, RNs. LVNs, physical and occupational therapists, and aids were there to aid my recovery.

I encourage anyone interested in the field of medicine and rehabilitation to consider one of these professions.  These folks bring enthusiasm and dedication to their jobs along with concern for their patients.

Please comment about  your experience with physical rehabilitation by posting in this bIog or emailing at glynjordan@gmail.com.

Thanks!
